Punctuation in poetry

So I've sent in the form that they wanted returned, with any corrections to my poem, and I thought about the punctuation. I may break a line up to make it read better, but I tend to put any commas or full stops at the end of lines, rather than mid line. I think it is better to have the pauses at the end of the line, though if there comes a time that it works, I would put them in the middle (not excluding listing things with commas).
I guess one way to look at it is how the poem would look when written out s a normal paragraph of text, would the punctuation look right that way. Then I could correct any punctuation and put it back into poem form. What do you think?
