I'm not sure if I am just noticing it now, but it seems like coins that are minted this year only start circulating in the last months of the year. Probably haven't been paying much attention, but only now noticing the shiny new coins. If it wasn't for the shininess and new designs on some of them I wouldn't think that new coins get made that much.
I guess I like the sheen of new copper coins because of how much copper tarnishes and loses is shine. It changes from a light orangey brown to a muddy colour, so has a brief live of being new before succumbing to age, while other coins don't seem to lose as much luster. It kind of represents transience to me.
